The Walk for a Million organized by the Charity Fund From the Readers of Macao Daily News has continuously been supported by the Macao residents for 40 years. The 40th Walk for a Million will be held on 10th December, 2023, and on the same date, Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau will issue the stamp theme “40th Walk for a Million” to celebrate this special event.
In 1984, in response to an initiative of the Macao Daily News, a group of enthusiastic people founded the Charity Fund From the Readers of Macao Daily News with the purpose of carrying out charity works in an organized manner. Holding the tenet of “All for one and one for all”, the first Walk for a Million made its debut on 2nd December, 1984 to raise money for charity. Afterwards, this charity tradition was carried on and the event was held consecutively every year for over thirty years, regardless of conditions of weather or society, and the torch of charity has been passing down through generations. For the first time of this year, the Walk will be held both online and offline for the public to participate in this charity walk free of limitations wherever they are
This issue includes a set of two stamps and one souvenir sheet. The stamp design illustrates people from all sectors of the society, regardless of their races, classes and ages, taking an active part in the event, with the purpose of helping those in need. The souvenir sheet illustrates this annual charity event with drawings of the dragon and lion dance, drunken dragon dance and performance by the Music Band of the Public Security Police Force, and the background shows the buildings along the route line, such as the A-Ma Temple, Macau Tower, Macao Science Center, Kun Iam Statue, etc
The above issue will be available for sale at the General Post Office (9:00a.m. to 2:00p.m.), and the Communications Museum (9:00a.m. to 2:00p.m.). The mail service for the philatelic products cancelled with the commemorative postmark of this issue will be available on the issue date at the above locations. The philatelic products are as follows
