Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau issued the label stamps “Lunar Year of the Snake”, “Lunar Year of the Horse”, “Lunar Year of the Goat”, “Lunar Year of the Monkey”, “Lunar Year of the Rooster”, “Lunar Year of the Dog”, “Lunar Year of the Pig”, “ Lunar Year of the Rat”, “Lunar Year of the Ox”, “Lunar Year of the Tiger” and “Lunar Year of the Rabbit” in the stamp series of Chinese Zodiac between 2013 and 2023. The last of the twelve issues with the stamp theme “Lunar Year of the Dragon” will be issued on 1^st February, 2024. The printing quantity is 750,000 label stamps.

The dragon is an important totem of the Chinese people. It is stated in the ancient Chinese dictionary “Shuowen Jiezi” that “The dragon, leader of the scaly animals, can go in the dark or light, can be small or giant, short or long, and rises into the heaven in the spring equinox and submerges to the abyss in the autumn equinox”. In the past, the dragon is associated with the “majesty”, the “sacredness” and the “solemnity”, which is why its image represented the imperial authority. Today, the relationship that people have with the dragon is not one of mere worship, but is increasingly integrated into the daily life of the Chinese people, in which they believe is part of their culture.

The year 2024 is the Lunar Year of the Dragon. Through the issue of the label stamps “Lunar Year of the Dragon”, CTT Macao hopes everyone has “The Strength and Energy of the Dragon” and flies ever higher with this auspicious animal.

The above issue will be available for sale at the General Post Office (9:00a.m. to 5:30p.m.), the Communications Museum (9:00a.m. to 1:00p.m., 2:30p.m. to 5:30p.m.), and the “Rua do Campo” Post Office (9:00a.m. to 6:00p.m.). The mail service for the philatelic products cancelled with the commemorative postmark of this issue will be available on the issue date at the above locations. The philatelic products are as follows:

On the issue date, the maximum sales quota per queuing customer is 20 sets of label stamps (4 label stamps per set), 20 first day covers with label stamps and 20 information brochures with label stamps.

Arrangement of automatic stamp vending machines

As a temporary arrangement, the time limit for using the automatic stamp vending machines at the following locations is 5 minutes for each queuing customer:

- General Post Office, Lobby

- Communications Museum, Ground Floor

The stamp designer of this issue is Ms. Anita, Fung Pou Chu, and the text of the information brochure is written by Mr. Gong Gang.

The issued stamp theme in 2024 includes the commemorative stamp “Lunar Year of the Dragon” issued on 05/01/2024, and the commemorative stamp “150^th Anniversary of Conde de São Januário General Hospital” issued on 06/01/2024.
